Construction progress reaching head office live

Construction progress reaching head office live

Head office usually hears about the delay after it has already been paid for

The problem

A project's real status lives in whichever spreadsheet the department managing it happens to keep. Progress against the schedule, cost against the budget and the risk register are each updated on that department's own rhythm, and rolling them into a single view for head office is a manual exercise on its own separate schedule. By the time the consolidated report is built, the delay it describes has usually already turned into a cost, because whatever caused it kept running for however many weeks it took to notice.

The usual answer

The usual fix is a reporting cadence: a weekly or monthly submission from every department, chased by whoever owns the consolidation. That catches slippage faster than no process at all, and it still lags the event by however long the cadence is, and someone still spends real time chasing departments that file late or file incompletely. A dashboard that departments update by hand solves the visibility problem for exactly as long as everyone keeps it current, which in practice degrades within a few months.

How we approach it

We bring operational data into one platform as it is created, reading progress and cost signals from the systems a project is already running on rather than waiting for someone to type them into a report. Where a department's system cannot be read directly, we build an intake that takes its existing file and normalises it on arrival, so nobody has to change how they work to be counted. A missing update shows up as a gap in the current view, not as a blank cell discovered a month later.

What changes

A project lead sees slippage in the week it happens, not in next month's report. Decisions about resourcing or scope get made against what is actually happening on site, and the consolidated report becomes something you can check any time rather than something you wait for once a month.
